🎈 Are You Addicted to Reassurance?
Ah, the glory of the 21st century.
It's a beautiful time to be alive, isn't it? I can get ahold of someone instantly, even if they're across the globe.
I can keep in touch with anyone I meet, cancel plans at the last minute, and reassure people that I care about them. I can even find out whether people like me through digital communication and social media.
But let's take a moment to compare the 21st century of instantaneous communication with the 20th century before the advent of the smartphone. Back then, to get in touch with people, you needed to write a letter or go to a payphone. You weren't able to immediately check in with your relationships—you had to wait.
It was normal for days to pass before getting a response. If someone didn’t receive your message right away, it didn’t mean your relationship was compromised. When someone didn’t constantly reply or reassure you, it didn’t mean they didn’t care.
