In my world, habits have a specific structure. Theyâre built as if-then statements, so theyâre easy to adopt. You identify a condition or trigger, then follow through with a meaningful action.
The following is my list of habits for cultivating joy.
1. When you feel nonresistance to the moment in your body, take time to re-regulate.
Notice when stress or frustration builds, and pause to recalibrate your emotional state and open your moment.
2. When you open your phone, ask yourself, âWill I feed my brain a nutrient or a poison?â
Consciously choose content that uplifts and inspires rather than drains or distracts you.
3. When something bad happens, ask yourself, âWhat is the silver lining?â
Finding a positive perspective doesnât erase challenges but helps you move forward with resilience.
4. When you face the urge, practice delayed gratification.
Pause before indulging and set a timer. Alternatively, engage in a healthier, more rewarding activity.
