There’s your life situation—the external stuff like where you live or what you do—and then there’s you: your habits, your mindset, your patterns. Research backs this up: your mental patterns shape your happiness way more than your circumstances ever will.

Still, the setup of your life matters—it’s the stage where your joy gets to play out. So what’s the perfect life situation? The perfect routine? The perfect lifestyle? That’s for you to figure out, but here’s mine, built from what lights me up most.

Work: I host two monthly leadership Joy Bootcamps—think adult summer camps with a purpose. They’re joy leadership programs, not cults (despite what the internet says!), designed to help people tap into their intrinsic joy without shopping, screens, or substances. Word of mouth fills them up—no endless social media grind needed. It’s steady, fulfilling work that lets me teach the science of joy full-time, like I’ve always dreamed.

I no longer have to travel to lead my opening Joynotes for conferences. I deliver them from afar using a virtual studio in my home. I invite my friends to join in and party crash thousand-person events. I get paid well, and the business operates on referral.

Money: I’ve got enough to cover my basics, host my friends at Joy Bootcamp for free, and offer discounted tickets to anyone who needs it. It’s not about excess—it’s about freedom to share what I love without stressing over the numbers. I make enough to design awesome experiences for my friends, without expecting anything in return.

Home: I live in a big, lively community house near a river and forest—nature’s right there when I need it. Five of us share the space, and it’s a hub of energy: we cook meals together, work out as a crew, and trade skills like it’s a mini university. It’s the kind of place where you feel both grounded and inspired. No drama-makers live in the house. Everyone is easygoing, forgiving, and unperturbed by the small things.

Community: Connection’s my fuel. I host 3 weekly events: a potluck, dance party, and happiness discussion. I also join weekly classes on health and performance, soaking up new ways to optimize my body and mind. It’s a mix of giving and receiving that keeps my circle tight and my joy humming.
