π The Biological Path to Your Mental Health
Recently, I returned from a retreat in California, which epitomized new-age spirituality. This experience led me to write this article.
Trauma. Grieving. Processing. Therapy.
What if retelling the past was not the answer to elevated mental health in the present? What if the true cause of our mental disarray was physiological, not psychological? What if depression was caused by poor circadian rhythms, bad gut bacteria, and microplastics, not past trauma?
I am not saying that healing our past is a waste of time.
What I am saying is that maybe the cause of distress is not actually the past.
Maybe the cause exists in the presentβ¦ in your state of physiology. Maybe, you had a horrible sleep the night before. Maybe, you inflamed your gut and brain with French fries. Maybe, you havenβt moved all day.
